Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?

Tell us about your dogs?
All 18 dogs in training for the Quest come from 4 litters and are half or full siblings in terms of grand parents. Two -thirds are leaders, 11 are 2 or 3 years old. I look forward to racing with them. Probably the most uniform team I have ever had.

How did you get started running dogs?
Sprint racing in Austria.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?
Being out there with my best buddies in an incredible land with no one else around.

Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
I entered because our dogs look good. As for goals, of course I have goals but I'm not going to tell anybody.

How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?
We choose each name individually. Senna was named after Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, because the tougher the conditions were, the better he did. Fernando was named after the ABBA song, we liked the lyrics so far as dog mushing goes. Nigel is named after the XTC song, 'Making Plans for Nigel'. Rambler, 'Midnight Rambler' by the Stones, (the live version played on the radio and that was 'it'), and so on.
