Route Change Applied to YQ300

Friday, January 18, 2019

After careful consideration, due to reports of difficult trail conditions, the Yukon Quest has made the decision to shorten the 2019 YQ300 for the safety of dogs and mushers.

The YQ300 currently travels exclusively over sections of race trail most heavily affected by low snow conditions. Due to this, a shortened alternate race route will be applied. YQ300 mushers will start in Whitehorse and travel to Braeburn before looping back to Whitehorse via Coghlan Lake. The cumulative distance with these changes is approximately 200 miles. To ensure there is support for all teams to finish safely, a time restriction for slower teams will also be implemented.

At this time, no changes have been made to this portion of the trail for the 1,000-mile race. Race organizers and officials are actively reviewing trail conditions and will make any changes necessary to ensure the safety of all dogs and mushers who participate. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
