Tuesday, February 12, 2019

Late yesterday evening, Misha Wiljes came in to Central checkpoint with Joker, a five-year-old male on her team who died approximately three miles outside of the checkpoint.

Head Veterinarian Cristina (Nina) Hansen, DVM, PhD reports that preliminary necropsy results for Joker, performed by Dr. Greta Krafsur, DVM, DACVP, showed that the cause of death was aspiration. Joker was in good body condition and there were no signs of neglect or abuse.

Final necropsy results are expected to be released within one month after the 2019 race finish.
