Due to predicted flooding on the Chena River through the weekend, the 2014 Yukon Quest Dawg Gone Canoe Race is postponed.
The race is being moved from its originally scheduled date of Sunday, June 22, to Sunday, July 13. It will start at 5 pm on July 13 at Graehl Landing (by ProMusic).
Although called a race, this event discourages speed and encourages fun. Each team consists of a dawg handler, dawg driver, and a dawg. The Yukon Quest’s Dawg Gone Canoe Race cherishes dogs of all shapes and sizes…humans dressed as dawgs and toy dogs included. Traveling down the Chena, the dawg and dawg handler will jump out of the canoe to pick up playing cards at the four checkpoints, then finish at the Boatel Bar.
Prizes will go to the best poker hand, biggest dawg, and other outrageous prizes. Costumes are encouraged! The awards ceremony will be at the Boatel Bar with burgers and brats for the dawg teams. The team must supply its own personal flotation devices, canoe, and $100 entry fee ($125 late fee after July 11). Each human participant must be 21 or older.
Teams who have already registered but which are unable to participate on the new date will be issued a full refund.
