Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?

Tell us about your dogs?
I always kept a small kennel (usually 8 dogs max) for years. I realize now how important it is to have extra dogs so I just expanded the kennel and now have more dogs. Half of the team will be from last year, with many new recruits.

How did you get started running dogs?
My dad purchased some Siberians. They were pets at first, then became sled dogs, and I was hooked.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?
The bond I have with them and the silence/peacefulness, plus the lifestyle it allows me to lead.

Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Dog Powered Sports Association of Yukon

Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
I enjoyed last year's race and want to challenge myself again. My goals are to incorporate what I learned and finish with a good-looking team.

What music do you listen to on the trail?
Country, rock, pop, acoustical.

How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?
Most of my dogs were named by previous owners but dogs born in my kennel are named based on themes. I do shorten names to make them easier.
