Yukon Quest Race Marshall Doug Grilliot announced that the mandatory layover at Dawson would be extended by four hours, from 36 hours to 40 hours.

Key race personnel, including veterinarians and officials, are required to be in place at all checkpoints in advance of mushers. The next checkpoint after Dawson is Eagle, Alaska which is accessible only by air.

The decision has been made in order to ensure that all support and logistics are in place to care for mushers and dogs. The combination of a re-route eliminating American Summit – which reduces the distance of the race by approximately 50 miles – and the pace of the front runners was the basis for the decision.
