MORE ABOUT THE FLYOVER MAP

What it is…
The Yukon Quest Flyover (YQFlyover) is an interactive, web-based, virtual flight over the Trail of the Yukon Quest 1000 Mile International Dog Sled Race. YQFlyover performs a low altitude traversal of a virtual 3D landscape between Whitehorse, Yukon and Fairbanks, Alaska. Course descriptions in English, French and German(* not yet available) provide details about each race leg. The simulated flight can be stopped and restarted, or reversed at any point to explore the terrain along the Trail.

What it does…
YQFlyover uses a Google Earth browser plug-in to provide a virtual 3D terrain model within a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari. A link is provided for visitors to download the Google Earth (GE) plug-in directly from Google. Once the GE plug-in is downloaded and installed, YQFlyover will immediately begin loading the ‘Earth’ model, and proceed along the first leg to the Trail from a pre-determined start line.

Getting Started…
Follow the link below to access the Flyover Control Panel. Selection of course direction and race leg defaults to the 2009 race, at the Whitehorse starting line. If the GEplugin is not installed, a link is provided to the Google site for downloading the GEplugin instead of displaying the 3D map. Once the Geplugin has been installed, the simulation will begin when the page is refreshed (restarting the browser should not be necessary).
