Rubber Duckies aren’t the only thing floating down the Chena River during Golden Days. The Yukon Quest Dawg Gone Canoe Race Fun-raiser is back in time for Golden Days. Following Saturday’s Rubber Ducky Race, the Dawg Gone Canoe Race starts at 5pm at Graehl Landing (by ProMusic).
Although called a race, this event discourages speed and encourages fun. Each team consists of a dawg handler, dawg driver, and a dawg. The Yukon Quest’s Dawg Gone Canoe Race cherishes dogs of all shapes and sizes…humans dressed as dawgs and toy dogs included. Traveling down the Chena, the dawg and dawg handler will jump out of the canoe to pick up playing cards at the 4 checkpoints then finish at the Boatel Bar.
Prizes will go to the best poker hand, biggest dawg, and other outrageous prizes. Costumes are encouraged! The awards ceremony will be at the Boatel Bar with burgers and brats for the dawg teams.
When: July 20, 2013 at 5pm
Where: Graehl Landing
The team must supply their own personal flotation devices, canoe, and $100 entry fee ($125 late fee after July 19 at 6pm). Each human participant must be 21 or older.
