Fred Meyer, Inukshuk Help Yukon Quest Fans Meet the Mushers

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

Fans of the Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile International Sled Dog Race will once again have the chance to meet the mushers running in 2016, thanks to the support of Fred Meyer and Inukshuk Professional Dog Food.

Fred Meyer is the official sponsor of Meet the Mushers in Fairbanks, while Inukshuk will ensure the success of the Meet the Mushers event in Whitehorse. Fred Meyer had previously been a Lead Dog sponsor with the Yukon Quest, while Inukshuk signs on as a sponsor for the first time this year.

“Meet the Mushers is one of the events that Yukon Quest fans and the mushers look forward to each year,” says Natalie Haltrich, Yukon Quest Executive Director – Yukon. “With their interest in the health and care of canine athletes, it was a natural fit for Inukshuk Professional Dog Food to come on board in support of the Yukon Quest. We’re excited to have them join us for what is sure to be a popular and fun way to celebrate this year’s race finish in Whitehorse.”

“Fred Meyer is a long-time supporter of the Yukon Quest, and their decision to increase their involvement this year as an official sponsor of Meet the Mushers is exciting news for fans of the race,” says Marti Steury, Yukon Quest Executive Director – Alaska. “Meet the Mushers is really the kick-off event during race week, and we wouldn’t be able to offer this experience to the fans without the contribution of Fred Meyer.”

Meet the Mushers is a chance for fans to get an autograph or picture with their favourite 2016 musher. There is no entry fee, and lights snacks and refreshments are provided. Yukon Quest merchandise is also available for purchase at each event.

The Fred Meyer Meet the Mushers will take place Wednesday, February 3rd, at the La Quinta Inns & Suites in Fairbanks. The event starts at 7:00 pm AKST. The Inukshuk Meet the Mushers in Whitehorse will be hosted at Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre on Friday, February 19th, at 6:30 pm PST.

“Fred Meyer is honored to continue our partnership with the Yukon Quest,” states Judi Swift, Community Relations Coordinator for Fred Meyer. “We are happy to present the Meet the Mushers event this year. We hope our Customers and Associates are able to enjoy this event leading up to the big race.”

“Over the past five years, we have had the delight of providing energy and nutrition to the mushing teams of Alaska, Yukon and beyond,” says Lindsay Richardson, Corporate Communications, Inukshuk Professional Dog Food. “Whether seasoned professionals or bold beginners, we greatly admire all the members of the mushing community for their determination, dedication and strength.
