Fans of the Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile International Sled Dog Race will get to meet the 2018 mushers before and after the race thanks to Fred Meyer and Inukshuk Professional Dog Food.
The Official Meet the Mushers sponsor in Alaska, Fred Meyer, gives fans an opportunity to meet the 2018 mushers prior to the start of the race in Fairbanks while Inukshuk Professional Dog Food sponsors the event post-race in Whitehorse. Meet the Mushers provides fans, media, and sponsors a unique opportunity to meet the 2018 mushers, ask questions and have posters and merchandise signed, as well as mingle with other Yukon Quest-enthusiasts.
“Meet the Mushers kicks off the excitement pre-race and Fred Meyer returning this year makes it all possible,” says Marti Steury, Executive Director – Alaska. “Families love this event and with Fred Meyer’s focus on family and community, this is a perfect way for them to participate.”
“Inukshuk Professional Dog Food is passionate about the health and welfare of canines. Having them return as our official Meet the Musher – Yukon sponsor for the third year in a row is an excellent fit for the race,” states Natalie Haltrich, Executive Director – Yukon. “Fans have just watched an incredible race take place over two weeks. The post-race Meet the Mushers event provides a great opportunity to celebrate and hear some of the stories from the trail.”
The pre-race Meet the Mushers takes place on Wednesday, January 31st from 6:30pm to 9:30pm in the Glacier Room at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Fairbanks, Alaska. Post-race Meet the Mushers will take place on Friday, February 16th from 6pm to 10pm in the Grey Room at Mt. McIntyre in Whitehorse, Yukon. Both events are family-friendly and free to attend with snacks and a cash bar. Merchandise will be available for purchase.
"Fred Meyer is proud to be a part of continuing the heritage of this event,” says Jeffery Temple, Director of Corporate Affairs, Fred Meyer Stores. “It is great that we have the opportunity to help connect enthusiasts and members of the community with the mushers.”
“Meet the Mushers is an event where the general public, especially the younger generations, can be introduced to the motivation, courage and humbleness embodied by the Yukon Quest competitors,” states Lindsay Richardson, Brand Manager, Inukshuk Professional Dog Food. “One thousand miles of cold, making this the ultimate challenge, is not for the faint of heart and those who have endured the Yukon Quest are truly an inspiration for anyone who attends.”
