Most people noticed that musher Hugh Neff blazed out of the Yukon Quest start gate wearing his signature “The Cat in the Hat” headpiece. It’s hard to miss the tall red and white hat from the eponymous children’s book.
But Neff’s number-one fan noticed he was also wearing something else....

Before the onslaught of excited fans descended upon Wednesday night’s Meet the Mushers event in Fairbanks we sat down with the 2018 Yukon Quest freshman class to get some further insight into their preparation, anticipation, and expectations for their rookie run.

In the order they signed up in, one by one the 2018 mushers of the Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile International Sled Dog Race drew their starting position at the Start & Draw Banquet, taking the time to thank sponsors, handlers, family, and friends for their support.
The volunteer trail breakers in Alaska and the Canadian Rangers in Yukon have been working hard breaking trail to ensure the safety of the mushers and teams.
